Whaaaat? I can download and cut my own cookie stencils?
Hello! I am Nancy from The Colorful Cookie Stencil Studio. I started decorating sugar cookies 2 years ago. My bakery name was The Colorful Cookie. Cookie cutters and stencils were two of my favorite things! I bought lots of both! When I needed some custom stencils for an order and didn’t have time to order them, I became curious about cutting my own. I knew that Cricut and Silhouette machines were used to cut vinyl for decals and t-shirts and also paper for cards and scrapbooks. I had owned a Cricut when it first came out, years ago. I could not figure out how to use it, so it sat in the closet for a few years. I ended up giving it away. Can you relate?
Fast forward to last year…The the stencil bug bit me! I went online to look for videos or tutorials to show me how to use the machines to design and cut cookie stencils. I found nothing specifically for using a cutting machine to design and cut cookie stencils. However, I was determined to master it! After many, many hours of trying to learn the software for the Cricut and the Silhouette Cameo, literally head banging my desk, a few tears, and lots of wasted stencil material, here I am. I still have both machines and they are in one piece. In the beginning, I did think about throwing them out the window a few times though. I am thankful that I found a Facebook group that was called Cookie Stencil Community. There were helpful posts and information in the group that got me started in the right direction. I started learning from some of the members and also sharing what I had learned about the stencil making process.
Today, I can design and cut any stencil that I want. I began blogging at thecolorfulcookie.com and posting tutorials. After receiving lots of emails, private messages, and comments, I realized that I needed to be able to answer specific questions and give helpful tips. A few weeks ago, I started a Facebook group for followers of The Colorful Cookie Blog. It has grown so large! I decided to add Stencil Studio to the name since that is the focus of the group. Join us at The Colorful Cookie Stencil Studio Facebook Group if you’d like to learn more about cutting stencils.
In the next blog post, I will share video tutorials for both the Cricut and Silhouette Cameo to show you how to use the designs in your software.
