I love writing blog posts for you! Many times there are things I’d like to share quickly, like the awesome freebies that I find! I have decided to create a Facebook Group where all of us can post when we have a question to ask or something to share. It is called The COLORFUL Cookie–Stencil Fun for Cookiers.
There are lots of links to great images or free fonts that would make perfect cookie stencils that I’d like to be able to share with you. You will also be able to share images and helpful tips as well. I will be creating video tutorials from time to time for both Silhouette and Cricut software and how to use the machines.
I often get asked the same questions about the stencil making process. Now, the answer can be posted for all to see. Someone else may have a different answer and can chime in with their method or technique. If someone has a question, odds are that someone else probably has the same question. I always say, that the only silly question is the one that does not get asked. If I don’t know the answer, I do my best to figure it out. I am not a graphic designer. I am self taught. There was very little information about designing cookie stencils out there when I started to learn a little over a year ago. I am here to help!
It’s a good thing that there are great stencil vendors out there because I like to buy the more complicated and detailed stencils. It takes a lot less time to click the Buy Now button! Some of their designs are so pretty! If I see a cookie stencil that I love, I always buy it! Even though I can make my own, I appreciate the creativity, time, and effort that the vendors put into designing stencils. If you design your own stencils, you know a lot of work goes into the process. It can take some time to learn, but the more practice you have, the easier it gets! And in the words of Ms Frizzle, I quote, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!” It is the only way to learn! You will waste some stencil material. Good thing it is inexpensive and easy to buy! Hopefully, the tutorials on the blog and the FB group can help you.
Please join the group and spread the word about the blog to others who may be interested in learning to design their own stencils! There are lots more tutorials to come and I take suggestions! The School Bus PYO for Silhouette Studio is coming up next. Then there will be a tutorial to learn how to use a cutter to design a matching stencil(at the suggestion of my friend Barb from Sugar Coated Nanagrams).
